#OpenForGood Profile: Jochebed’s Hope

Nonprofits serving missions internationally faced unique challenges throughout the pandemic – how can you both run your programs remotely and keep your donors updates on your efforts? The team at Jochebed’s Hope, which provides for churches, schools, and children’s homes on the island of Nias in Indonesia, saw these difficulties coming when they decided to strengthen their virtual fundraising efforts by switching to Network for Good several years ago. With donors located in countries that include United States, Australia, Singapore, the need to stay in touch with donors was a pressing one. And over the past several years, they used short, sweet email blasts to keep their donors in the loop and enjoy higher open rates and levels of giving than before because of those efforts.

During the pandemic, they kept up frequent email communication with donors, despite not being able to visit Indonesia. They rely on their program team members located in Indonesia to share photos and updates which they then share with donors. They also tried new ways of communicating with their donors, like Facebook livestreams. And all the while, they wove in stories about life for students on Nias in with their communications – in underscoring the impact of both the pandemic and of donations on students, they were able to grow and sustain their communities and donor bases despite not being able to visit Indonesia. And as they look to eventually expand their programming throughout the Island of Nias, they continue to put frequent and meaningful donor communication first and eagerly await the day when they can return to Indonesia.
